For example, the red dwarf star TRAPPIST-1 is home to the largest group of roughly Earth-sized planets ever found in a single stellar system with seven rocky siblings including four in the habitable zone. But at around 8 billion years old, these worlds are roughly 2 billion years older than the most optimistic degassing lifetime predicted by this study and unlikely to support a temperate climate today.

Karahan Tepe is currently under excavation and what is coming out of the ground is set to rewrite history. This is a very strange site in the Tektek Mountains southeast of Şanlıurfa in Turkey and is the sister site of Göbekli Tepe. It dates to at least 11,000 years old and the evidence now confirms it was part of a sophisticated supercivilization in Southeast Anatolia, probably created by the Watchers of 'The Book of Enoch' or the Anunnaki of Sumerian tradition. A Winter Solstice alignment has been discovered and further insights into the importance of this site are revealed in the video. More sites are being excavated right now in the area in a zone called 'Tas Tepeler,' meaning 'Stone Hills', and covers an area of 124 miles in width. The site will be opening to visitors by the summer of 2022 and we are taking a group there in September, so consider joining us to visit the most important archaeological discovery of the 21st Century.

* "Secrets of the Antikythera Mechanism" (2015, Computer History Museum):
[Recorded: May 13, 2015]
In 1900, sponge divers off the coast of the tiny Greek island of Antikythera made an astonishing discovery: the wreck of an ancient Roman ship lay 200 feet beneath the water, its dazzling cargo spread out over the ocean floor. Among the life-size statues and amphorae was an encrusted piece of metal, which after nearly a century of investigation, is finally revealing its secrets. Called the Antikythera Mechanism, study has shown that this improbably preserved object is actually an ancient Greek astronomical computer of a technical sophistication not seen until the clock making traditions of Medieval Europe—1,500 years after the Mechanism is believed to have been made (about 200 BC).Recent advances in computer imaging as well as painstaking scholarship have finally elucidated nearly all details of the Mechanism.
Join us as we dive into the mysterious history of the Antikythera Mechanism, guided by several world experts: Jonathan Knowles, from Autodesk, discusses the use of digital tools to recreate historical objects; Michael Wright, former curator of mechanical engineering at the Science Museum in London, describes the structure and recreation of the Mechanism at University College London and brought a model of the device to the Museum for audience members to explore; professor Nicolaos Alexopoulos presents on the sociology, engineering, and science of ancient Greece; marine archaeologist Brendan Foley describes his 2014 diving expedition to the original Antikythera wreck site; and, finally, Tatjana Dzambazova will discuss her projects at Autodesk for the digital preservation and dissemination of cultural heritage. The host of this event is Museum Trustee Michael Hawley.

Turkish-backed mercenaries excavate and destroy archaeological site in Afrin; Turkish-backed factions have destroyed by machinery the archaeological site of Bishirak located near the village of Premja in Afrin’s Mabeta district" (2022-05-16, anfenglishmobile.com/rojava-syria/turkish-backed-mercenaries-excavate-and-destroy-archaeological-site-in-afrin-59974) [archive.ph/BE1jv]:
As Turkish-backed factions in Afrin continue their violations, destroying hills and archaeological sites in search of buried treasures and archaeological relics, and destroying Syria’s civilisational heritage, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that Turkish-backed factions have destroyed by machinery the archaeological site of Bishirak near the Premja village in Afrin’s Mabeta district.
The site was previously bulldozed, affecting the archaeological layers. The area that has been bulldozed is estimated to be nearly 27500 square meters, in addition to the uprooting of dozens of olive trees surrounding the archaeological site.
On May 8, SOHR reported that “National Army” factions sabotaged and bulldozed the “Be’r Jobana” site completely during the last month, using heavy machinery and bulldozers looking for buried treasure and antiques.
The archaeological site is located near Jobana village in Rajo district in the Afrin countryside, where factions completely bulldozed the site, in addition to uprooting dozens of olive and oak trees.

In Beijing, archeologists have successfully reconstructed a dressing mirror once cherished by high nobility during the Han Dynasty some 2,000 years ago. It bears the earliest-known portrait of Confucius interacting with his disciples and over 2,000 Chinese characters devoted to the ancient sage.
Dubbed the "Confucius Portrait Screen," it was originally thought to be a lacquer screen. Once set in the living quarters of the Marquis of Haihun, it was meant to offer moral instructions to the titled aristocrat by promoting the wisdom of the Chinese philosopher and politician as the subject reflected on his life. * "Travel: An Etruscan Renaissance in Florence" (2021-04-14, world-archaeology.com/travel/travel-an-etruscan-renaissance-in-florence/) [archive.ph/qDqUY] [begin excerpt]: While there are impressive artefacts from all periods within, including a fantasy courtyard made from sculptural fragments of Roman Florentia, its glory is really the series of Etruscan antiquities. The territory of Tuscany stretched over much of central Italy, and so there is material here from all over the Etruscan world – from inland hill towns and ‘loot’ from the vast cemeteries of the coastal cities. This actually begins in the museum’s courtyard garden. The large central space has been reworked into a collection of tombs, virtually all the standard Etruscan types, from tumuli to cist graves.
The most spectacular items from the collection are in a room to themselves. Here, off a corridor of tiny bronzes, one encounters the fantastic Chimera of Arezzo. Arezzo has a special place in Etruscan studies. The discovery of fragmentary painted ‘Greek’ ceramics in Arezzo during the building of the walls in the 13th century was the catalyst that first really fired an interest in the Etruscans.
The Chimera was discovered during the rebuilding of the Porta Laurenta in that city and was immediately seized by Cosimo I, who was so taken with his acquisition that he roped in Benvenuto Cellini to advise him on how to restore it. The Chimera was once part of a group including the hero Bellerophon. The foul monster, with a double lion and goat head, and snake-like tail, stands wounded at bay. It is a virtuoso piece of lost-wax bronze casting, a technique the Etruscans mastered, and most likely dates to the later Hellenistic era (the 3rd and 2nd century BC), a time of political decline but continued technical virtuosity. The other sculpture in this room is the famous Orator. Normally taken to be a Roman politician, it is in fact the Etruscan worthy Aulus Metellus. It is similar in date and clearly shows the connection between Etruria and Rome. [end excerpt]
- image caption: The famous statue of the Orator, recovered from Lake Trasimene in 1556. Although this is often assumed to represent a Roman, the figure is Aulus Metellus, an Etruscan.
- image caption: The marvellous Chimera of Arezzo. This extraordinary bronze most likely dates to the 3rd or 2nd century BC, and is a masterpiece of Etruscan metalwork. Cosimo I Medici worked on its restoration himself.

* "Lost Dixon Relic" (2021-04-06, world-archaeology.com/issues/issue-106/lost-dixon-relic/) [archive.ph/7Z0v7]:
What is it?
The box, open, showing five fragments of wood lying on white tissue paper inside
This cigar box, containing several wooden splinters that make up a piece of cedar discovered in the Great Pyramid of Giza, was recently found in the University of Aberdeen’s collections. The piece of wood is one of just three objects ever recovered from the pyramid. It was discovered in one piece in the 19th century, but exposure to air has caused it to disintegrate over time. It was originally part of a much larger wooden object, the remainder of which was last identified inside the pyramid during an exploration using a robotic camera in 1993. It has been suggested that it may have been part of a measuring rule used in the construction of the pyramid, but this remains uncertain.
Where was it found and when?
The cedar piece is one of three objects, known as the ‘Dixon Relics’, found in the so-called Queen’s Chamber by Waynman Dixon in 1872. It was donated to the University of Aberdeen in 1946 as part of the collections of Dr James Grant, who assisted Dixon in his exploration of the pyramid, but its whereabouts remained unknown for over 70 years. In 2001, a record was discovered that indicated the wood fragment may be hidden among the university’s collections, and an extensive search was carried out, but as the piece had never been classified it could not be found. It was only at the end of 2019 that it was finally located, mistakenly stored in the university’s Asia collection.
Why does it matter?
Two of the Dixon Relics, a copper hook and a dolerite ball, were donated to the British Museum after their discovery, but the third, the piece of wood, went missing for decades. The mystery of its location was finally solved during a review of the University of Aberdeen’s Asia collection, when curatorial assistant Abeer Eladany noticed that the cigar box in which the fragments are kept featured Egypt’s former flag and appeared to be in the wrong collection. By cross-referencing it with old records, she soon realised the true significance of the artefact.
The box, open, with fragments of wood inside, and a pile of smaller fragments next to it.
The rediscovery of the cedar fragment presented an important opportunity to carry out radiocarbon dating. This was delayed by COVID-19 restrictions, but has now revealed that the wood dates to the period 3341-3094 BC, c.500 years earlier than the Great Pyramid, which historical records date to the reign of Pharaoh Khufu (2580-2560 BC). This could be due to the wood coming from the centre of an old tree, or because timber was so scarce in Egypt that it was carefully reused and recycled for many years. The date does indicate that it was likely to have been left there at the time of the pyramid’s construction, rather than belonging to later explorers, but the artefact’s use remains a source of debate.

They found that the artifacts and the sediment layers in the latte site were older than Tinian’s House of Taga site. This meant that ancient Chamorros had inhabited the archipelago much earlier than previously thought. [...]
Moreover, Drs. Carson and Hung also took note of the artifact assemblage in the first Marianas settlement had similarities with the pottery-making tradition of island Southeast Asia, “most probably northern to central Philippines.”
Earlier studies by Drs. Carson and Hung had indicated a pottery trail that meant the ancient Chamorros may have taken the longest ocean-crossing migration of its time covering a distance of 2,000 km. [...]
At Unai Bapot, they dug two test pits more than 2m deep and they discovered an ancient cultural layer, which was originally a beach-front setting and where people lived more than 3,500 years ago as confirmed by radiocarbon dating. [...]
The oldest layer had “beautiful red-slipped pottery and some rare pieces of black-burnished pottery” explaining further that some pieces had fine decorations with “dentate-stamped, circle-marked, and incised designs.” [end excerpt]
- [note]: The article is about the uncovering of 2 meters of top soil to find the oldest cultural traces. However, also given without citation are the giant stones shaped by people, undisturbed and in situ on the surface. These are contemporary with other megalithic structures on the island, built in historical times, however, against claims that these were refuse deposited by the USA or dai Nippon (Japan), these stones would have been useful for landfill and not kept in a remote area.

[begin excerpt]: Over the Years, the Latte have Fallen
In 1638 a Spanish Galleon laden with precious goods wrecked off the coast of Tinian. Taga paddled a canoe through rough water to save the survivors and brought the men to Taga House where they recuperated and first recorded the existence of Taga and his unusual house. And when they reached home safely, word of Taga and his kind deeds spread.
The first illustration of the complete House of Taga was made in 1742 by a British sailor when he and his fellow crewmates repaired their ship close by. The house was again illustrated by a French explorer in 1819. At the time, seven stones remained standing and remained standing until 1888 when the first photograph of Taga House was taken by a French botanist visiting Tinian. When the first German District Officer of the Marinas visited in 1900, he reported only five standing stones.
By the time the Japanese archaeologists visited Tinian in 1924, only two of Taga’s stones remained upright. During the American capture of the island in 1944, the intense pre-invasion bombardment knocked down one shaft and the last surviving pillar was damaged. [end excerpt]
